Voiceover FAQ

How much does a professional voiceover cost?

Every voiceover project is different, so pricing depends on a few key factors: the length of your script, the complexity of the content (dense medical or legal terminology takes more time and care than a conversational explainer, for example), and how the finished audio will be used.

A voiceover for an internal training video is priced differently than one airing as a national TV commercial — that’s standard across the industry. This is called “usage,” and it’s how professional voice actors ensure you’re paying fairly for the value you’re getting, not more.

The best way to get an accurate quote? Send me your script (or a summary of your project) along with where and how the audio will be used, and if you have a budget range in mind (I do my best to work with clients!). I’ll get back to you with a clear, straightforward answer…typically within a few hours.

(For industry-standard rate guidance, see the GVAA Rate Guide…but this is a starting point, not an ironclad rule.)

How fast can you deliver my voiceover?

Fast. Because I’ve been doing this full-time for over a decade, I’ve built a very efficient production workflow. For most projects, I can deliver finished audio within 24 hours of receiving your script and direction. Shorter scripts — a 30-second commercial, a brief explainer — can often be turned around in just a few hours.

For larger projects like e-learning courses or long-form narrations, we’ll agree on a delivery schedule upfront so you always know what to expect. Rush delivery is available if you’re in a time crunch — just let me know and we’ll make it work.

How does the process work?

Booking a voiceover with me is simple:

  1. Send me your script along with details about your project — where the audio will be used, any creative direction or style preferences, and your budget range if you have one.
  2. I’ll send you a quote (and a free custom audition if you’d like to hear your script in my voice before committing).
  3. Once we agree on the details, I record, edit, and deliver your finished audio files — usually within 24 hours.

That’s it. No complicated portals, no middlemen, no waiting in a queue behind hundreds of other sellers. You’re working directly with me from start to finish.

How is your audio quality?

I’m the son of an audio engineer, so professional sound quality isn’t just something I aim for — it’s something I grew up with. I record in a professionally treated studio using broadcast-grade equipment, and every file goes through a multi-step audio processing chain that produces clean, consistent, ready-to-use audio.

This matters more than most buyers realize. Many voiceover sellers — especially on freelance platforms — are recording in untreated rooms with consumer-grade gear and minimal post-processing. The difference shows up as background noise, inconsistent volume, mouth clicks, and audio that your editor has to spend time fixing before it’s usable. My files arrive ready to drop into your project.

Do you offer revisions?

Absolutely. I want you to be completely happy with the final product. If the read needs a small adjustment in tone, pacing, or emphasis, I’ll re-record at no additional charge.

If the script itself changes after I’ve already recorded — new copy, different direction, added sections — that may involve an additional fee depending on the scope of the changes. I’ll always let you know upfront before any extra charges apply, so there are no surprises.

Can you match a specific style or reference?

Yes — and this is one of the advantages of working with an experienced voice talent. If you have a reference video, a temp track, or even a competitor’s ad that captures the tone you’re going for, send it over. I can listen to what you’re responding to in that reference and translate it into a read that fits your project while still sounding authentic to my voice.

The more direction you can give me, the better your result will be. A quick note like “conversational but confident, similar to the tone in this video” goes a long way.

Can we do a live directed session?

Yes. I’m fully set up for live directed sessions via Zoom, Source-Connect, and other platforms. This is a great option if you want real-time feedback and the ability to adjust the read on the fly — especially useful for commercials, high-profile projects, or anything where nuance matters.

For many projects, though, a directed session isn’t necessary. With clear direction upfront, I can deliver exactly what you need without the scheduling overhead. We can discuss which approach makes the most sense for your project.

What if my project needs more than one voice or different vocal tones?

While I don’t do exaggerated cartoon-style character voices, I can provide noticeably different tonal variations within my natural range — for example, a warm and conversational narrator tone versus a more authoritative and direct tone for a different section or character. This works well for e-learning modules with dialogue, explainer videos with multiple speakers, or any project where you need vocal contrast without hiring a second voice actor.

If your project genuinely requires distinctly different voices (male and female, for example), I’m happy to recommend trusted colleagues who would be a great fit.

Can you handle technical, medical, or legal terminology?

Yes. I’ve voiced projects across a wide range of industries — medical, pharmaceutical, financial, legal, technology, and more. I take pronunciation seriously: I research unfamiliar terms before I record, and I’m always happy to confirm pronunciations with you beforehand.

If your script includes specialized terminology, brand names, or acronyms, just include a pronunciation guide with your script and I’ll follow it exactly. With over 9,000 completed projects under my belt, chances are good I’ve already encountered your industry’s jargon.

What’s the difference between a professional voiceover and an AI-generated voice?

This is a question more and more clients are asking — and it’s a fair one. AI voices have improved dramatically, and for some use cases (automated phone menus, internal prototyping, high-volume low-stakes content), they can be a cost-effective option.

But here’s what AI still can’t do: interpret your message. A professional voice actor reads your script with an understanding of what matters — where to pause for emphasis, how to land a call-to-action, when to pull back and let the words breathe. We adjust in real time based on your feedback. We bring warmth, credibility, and nuance that listeners respond to on a subconscious level.

For anything customer-facing, brand-defining, or emotionally driven — commercials, corporate videos, e-learning, explainers — a human voice consistently outperforms AI in listener trust, engagement, and retention. If your content is worth producing, it’s worth voicing well.

Many companies that initially moved to AI voices are now coming back to human talent after seeing the difference in audience response. If you’re weighing the options, I’m happy to do a side-by-side comparison with your script so you can hear the difference for yourself.

What file formats do you deliver?

I deliver broadcast-quality audio in WAV, MP3, or AIFF format — whatever your project requires. If you need a specific format, sample rate, or bit depth, just let me know and I’ll match your technical specifications exactly.

Files are delivered via email for standard projects, or through Dropbox or Google Drive for larger files. You’ll have your audio in your inbox and ready to use.

Ready to get started? Send me your script and project details, and I’ll get back to you with a free quote — usually within a few hours.
